Infinite Continues

Recently on evenings and weekends i've been preoccupied with a bit of php, css, javascript and all things otherwise known as web development and wordpress. Why? Well because i can... and i've been working collaboratively with the designers and wordsmiths of Infinite Continues to make them a new home online. Infinite Continues handled art direction in-house and I handled the interactive and web development side of things. Was great fun, and a big challenge to get it all working well considering the vast and diverse amount of content.

So just briefly Infinite Continues is a online magazine about, as they put it; the art, design and culture of video games. It's a great angle to take and makes for an interesting read if you like video games. This is not just another computer game preview and review site. It's more than that... and the enthusiasm and hunger for videogames and everything around the industry really shines through. Check it out www.infinitecontinues.net

OFFF Paris 2010

OFFF

The powers that be at Pirata were nice enough to take a few of us along to OFFF in Paris. I think it's fair to say a great time was had by all. Both in and out of the actual festival. Lots of steak, crocque monsieurs and madames, one or two drinks and lots and lots of walking. Sadly I also had the worst Mojito i have ever ever had in my life. How someone could get that so wrong i'm not sure.

Anyway I just wanted to big up the talks i found interesting at OFFF... Read on :)

Studio Ghibli to make a video game

In my search for lovely interactive motion work, I was excited to read that Studio Ghibli is working with the people that made the nintendo DS classic, Professor Layton. A company called Level 5. The result will be a game for the Nintendo DS and Playstation 3 calledNinokuni (meaning Another World)

It's great to see a big animation studios collaborating with game developers to get an amazing looking end product (hopefully), rather than trying to do it all themselves.

Based on the snippets in this trailer it will look gorgeous. I guess the idea is that you should feel like you are a playing a studio Ghibli film... Hopefully it will play well too. These high profile collaborations and cross overs tend to go wrong in one way or another sadly.

Cows in Adverts

Recently i've noticed an alarming trend in TV advertising. Cows sell products... Well if it is related to diary products, cows are the best way to appeal to the wallets of the general public it would seem. I looked into it a bit more and noticed it's been going on for a long time now.

Unity 3D

All I'll say for now is... i'm really excited about the possiblilites of Unity 3D. I know it's been around for a while now but with more and more people starting to work with it, things are getting interesting again.

Disney Pipe Dreams

The idea of this was to be a microsite in one long page. And you can travel up and down the pipes in a non-linear fashion or sequentially section to section. The original idea and art direction was to be like an info-graphics flow chart. however due to the audience and creative guidelines that included the need to use clouds...

Webby Award Winner, Game & Application Category

Was more than pleased to hear the BMW Z4 Augmented Reality piece i designed has just won First Prize in the Game & Application Category at the 2010 Webby Awards. To say I'm pleased is an understatement. The whole team worked really hard on this. So it amazing to see it all paid off.
