Using Kinect… without an Xbox

The future of this looks very promising, and full of potential. It certainly seems more promising than the Wii remote hacking projects that went around when that first came about. By then i am thinking in terms of practical uses, for things like interactive installations etc. READ ON

3D Playtime #3

Shattering things So by this point i'm really enjoying playing around with Cinema 4D... there is so much stuff in that software and it's really user friendly. So the Greyscale Gorilla tutorial now is http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2009/12/shatter-and-destruction/ It involves a free third party plugin called destruction, and cinema 4D's mograph 2 features. Rock n Roll!

Goblin sharks

Totally unrelated to any design or digital subject matter, but I'm totally blown away with how weird these sharks are. They have a retractable jaw for a start. Like something from one of the Alien films. As well as a very long head. But you don't every hear about it or even see it in those Top Ten Lists like http://listverse.com/2007/10/28/top-10-strangest-animals/ Don't panic and cancel you're visit to Brighton beach just yet, they live in deep sea regions mainly round Japan.

OFFF Paris 2010

OFFF

The powers that be at Pirata were nice enough to take a few of us along to OFFF in Paris. I think it's fair to say a great time was had by all. Both in and out of the actual festival. Lots of steak, crocque monsieurs and madames, one or two drinks and lots and lots of walking. Sadly I also had the worst Mojito i have ever ever had in my life. How someone could get that so wrong i'm not sure.

Anyway I just wanted to big up the talks i found interesting at OFFF... Read on :)

Studio Ghibli to make a video game

In my search for lovely interactive motion work, I was excited to read that Studio Ghibli is working with the people that made the nintendo DS classic, Professor Layton. A company called Level 5. The result will be a game for the Nintendo DS and Playstation 3 calledNinokuni (meaning Another World)

It's great to see a big animation studios collaborating with game developers to get an amazing looking end product (hopefully), rather than trying to do it all themselves.

Based on the snippets in this trailer it will look gorgeous. I guess the idea is that you should feel like you are a playing a studio Ghibli film... Hopefully it will play well too. These high profile collaborations and cross overs tend to go wrong in one way or another sadly.

Cows in Adverts

Recently i've noticed an alarming trend in TV advertising. Cows sell products... Well if it is related to diary products, cows are the best way to appeal to the wallets of the general public it would seem. I looked into it a bit more and noticed it's been going on for a long time now.
